MyJobGroup.co.uk (www.MyJobGroup.co.uk), which boasts over 300 regional jobsites across the UK, has analysed peaks and troughs from five years’ web traffic and has predicted Tuesday as being the busiest day of 2010.

Traditionally, the first Tuesday back after the New Year is the busiest, but with so many people delaying the return to work because of the snow, job searches have been rising every day in 2010 and it is predicted to peak a week later than normal this year.

The company’s analysis of five years’ data shows that, post-New Year, Tuesday lunchtimes are the most popular periods, with the 15-minute window just after 12.30pm showing the absolute peak slot as workers combine the start of their lunch break with an online job search.

However, with the UK in the grip of the coldest winter for 50 years – and many workers unable or unwilling to get to get back to the office – thoughts of job hunting and career changes have been put back a week.

Scott Davidson, Marketing Manager of MyJobGroup.co.uk which has the UK’s fastest-growing network of regional jobsites, said: “Our busiest day has traditionally been the first Tuesday back in the office after January 1st.

For the creation of this atlas, information was gathered from various primary sources and references, mainly historical atlases from almost all European countries, and compiled in a georeferenced database – the Euratlas Georeferenced Historical Vector Data – for consistency.

The georeferencing and the Periodis software were created by Marc-Antoine Nussli, M.Sc. in Computer Science and PhD student. The maps were drawn by Christos Nussli, LL.M. and cartographer. The German version was established by Thomas Hockmann, Geographer and the French version by Oskar Baffi, LL.M and Research Fellow at the International Centre for Geopolitical Studies.
